How This One Conversation Changed They Way I look At My Struggles
Did you ever have the feeling that you’re never going to change? Like whatever you’re going through is here to stay? I have. Even after believing that I knew it all. After enduring emotional pain for years, I thought I had finally come to terms with it—only to get slammed back into it full force. My favorite anxiety coach on YouTube, Shaan Kassam, says: “The worst setbacks happen right before you finally get better!”
That’s a tough truth to swallow when you’re in it, but at the same time, it gives you the strength not to let frustration eat you up. And as always, there’s gold in the darkness. There’s wisdom in every dragon you slay.
This time, it feels like a catharsis—a culmination of all the knowledge I’ve gathered over the years. I recently learned a new term: Reflective Output. It means that all the content you consume is effectively useless if you don’t reflect on it—if you don’t write or talk about it in a way that lets you process the concepts you’ve learned.
My turning point in this setback was a content creator I had been following for years. He offered 1-on-1 sessions as a one-time trial on Instagram, and I took my chance. No expectations. It was the best money I have ever spent on an external perspective.
He showed me how I had navigated myself into an impossible situation—a situation that felt so hopeless, no option could get me out of the conundrum. It’s not like he told me anything new, but we all need that outside perspective to see how we’re lying to ourselves. You can be a great coach for others and a great villain for yourself…
That session gave me the clarity I had known for years but had never acted on 100%. During the years of suffering, I promised myself that I would use what I’d learned to help others—only to go back to tech consulting when I felt better. It felt like a betrayal. It was simple, it was comfortable, but it was also the life that brought me to my knees.
So when we ask ourselves if the way we feel will last forever, the answer is: if you use the same recipe, don’t expect a different outcome! And my body is telling me exactly what the truth is. When I heard him talk about how I’d lied to myself, and how I should put all my effort into creating content around my mission of “freeing the human soul,” my heart jumped.
So I guess the message is: if you feel stuck between a rock and a hard place emotionally, try to figure out what it is that makes you feel stuck. Then look at it and accept it without judgment. Feel the pain. Don’t distract yourself. And most importantly, try to conjure up a plan that’s built around meaning and a higher belief about your reality. It might sound a little high-pitched, but don’t get tangled up in perfectionism. Starting with curiosity is always good, but this is where most people get stuck forever—not daring to do the thing they’re most afraid of, even though they know it would make their lives a hundred times more meaningful. Don’t wait. Change.
